Another evening of bracing music performed by the Grossman Ensemble

grossman ensemble concert

“Calapitter” opens with a whimsical air but there is a constant, steady, brooding beat that provides momentum that leads to an almost chaotic climax. A slow section has a gossamer sense that degrades into murkiness. The whimsy returns for the understated conclusion.
